WUT Terminal Upgrades Port Capacity

Share:

HMM has announced that its U.S. subsidiary, Washington United Terminals Inc. (WUT) located at the Port of Tacoma in Washington state, has signed a contract with HD Hyundai Samho to acquire four new port cranes. The modernization project includes replacing two aging quay cranes and adding two new yard cranes to handle larger container vessels effectively.

Under the turnkey agreement, HD Hyundai Samho will oversee design, manufacturing, transportation, installation, and commissioning, with delivery scheduled for completion by 2028. This infrastructure upgrade will expand WUT’s annual cargo-handling capacity from 590,000 TEU to 880,000 TEU.

This investment forms part of HMM’s broader strategy, following previous port infrastructure initiatives such as developments in Vadhvan, India, and expansions at the TTIA terminal in Algeciras, Spain.
