Westwell has delivered 60 intelligent new energy terminal tractors equipped with a swappable battery system and a battery swapping station to Westports Malaysia, establishing the terminal as home to Malaysia’s largest fleet of electric terminal tractors. Located along the Strait of Malacca, Westports serves as a vital gateway container terminal connecting East Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, having handled 11.3m TEU in 2025 with an ongoing expansion project targeting a capacity of 27m TEU.
The newly arrived fleet has entered on-site commissioning and operational integration, with commercial operations scheduled to begin by the end of August to enhance operating efficiency and reduce costs associated with high fuel prices.
To support continuous operations, the vehicles are paired with Westwell’s PowerOnair intelligent battery swapping system, allowing automated battery replacement in approximately five minutes, while featuring specialized anti-corrosion and salt-spray protection designed for Malaysia’s tropical climate.
