Tideworks Technology has announced that its advanced terminal operating system (TOS) is now driving the successful restart of container operations at the Oregon Container Terminal (OCT). Formerly known as Terminal 6 at the Port of Portland, the facility has been rebranded and is now under the full operational and commercial management of Harbor Industrial. This relaunch represents a critical milestone for regional commerce, restoring direct international container access for importers and exporters across the Pacific Northwest and providing a more resilient alternative to distant gateways.
The deployment features an integrated suite of terminal operating and planning systems designed to optimize yard, gate, vessel, and equipment operations. By implementing these modern technological solutions, OCT gains real-time operational visibility and coordinated decision-making capabilities, ensuring high efficiency from the very first day of service. The Tideworks platform serves as a scalable backbone, allowing the terminal to stabilize early operations while maintaining the flexibility to expand rapidly as global trade volumes return to the region.
Restoring the terminal’s functionality is essential for Oregon’s economic competitiveness, supporting thousands of family-wage jobs and reducing logistics costs for local businesses. The project was made possible through a collaborative effort involving the Port of Portland, the state government, and private partners, with the State of Oregon committing $40 million to secure the terminal’s long-term viability. With Tideworks’ technology in place, the terminal is now equipped to handle complex multimodal connections, including dual-rail connectivity via BNSF and Union Pacific.
