Terminal Infrastructure Modernization Completed in Emmerich

Share:

On May 11, 2026, Contargo Rhein-Waal-Lippe officially accepted a new container gantry crane, marking the completion of a multi-year development project at the Port of Emmerich. The modernization efforts, led by port owner Port Emmerich – Infrastruktur- und Immobiliengesellschaft mbH (PE), aim to enhance the terminal’s capacity and operational efficiency.

The expansion included adding 12,000 square meters to the terminal area and upgrading critical infrastructure, such as crane runways. The total investment for the port infrastructure reached approximately 20 million euro, with 12 million euro specifically dedicated to the new gantry crane and runways. These improvements were supported by German federal funding for combined transport infrastructure. Future plans are already in motion to replace a second gantry crane by 2028, following positive signals regarding additional federal funding.
