Share:

Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) is accelerating the expansion of its container terminal on Maasvlakte 2 in collaboration with its shareholders DP World, CMA CGM, ONE, and HMM, bringing the project into its final phase with completion expected before 2030. The development incorporates the addition of a fourth deep-sea container berth utilizing the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s full allocated quay capacity, targeting a total terminal storage capacity of some 5m TEU.

The final expansion phase involves an investment of approx. €500m, bringing total investments for RWG to approx. €2bn, and features five new quay cranes, 22 automated stacking cranes across eleven storage modules, and 24 automated guided vehicles. RWG is additionally exploring a BoxBay system for approximately 30k TEU of empty container storage, alongside increased charging capacity for electric equipment and expanded maintenance facilities.

Civil engineering works will continue alongside the third-berth expansion phase announced in 2023, which is scheduled to commence commercial operations in 2027.
