Rijeka Gateway Revolutionizes Cold Chain Operations with Identec Solutions’ Smart Monitoring

Share:

In June 2025, Identec Solutions successfully deployed its Reefer Runner system at Rijeka Gateway, a joint venture between APM Terminals and Enna Logic, to automate the monitoring of 170 refrigerated container units. This state-of-the-art infrastructure connects directly to the terminal’s Navis N4 operating system, enabling real-time visibility and automated work order generation. By integrating these advanced IoT solutions, the Croatian deep-sea terminal ensures maximum cargo safety and operational efficiency for temperature-sensitive goods, supporting its mission to become a leading smart terminal in the Adriatic.

The implementation includes a specialized energy monitoring module that provides detailed insights into power consumption parameters such as voltage, current, and total kilowatt-hours. This functionality allows terminal operators to identify abnormal consumption patterns, track costs, and utilize data for predictive maintenance. Following the June deployment, the system went live in September 2025 to support full terminal operations, allowing operators to manage energy consumption and reduce emissions through informed, real-time decision-making.

Representing the largest private investment in Croatia at €380 million, Rijeka Gateway is engineered for high-efficiency, low-emission operations, with 95% of its equipment powered by renewable electricity. The terminal is designed to handle ultra-large container vessels of up to 24,000 TEUs and serves as a critical intermodal hub for Central and Southeastern Europe. The integration of Identec Solutions’ technology future-proofs the terminal’s capacity to manage over 1 million TEUs annually while maintaining strict environmental and safety standards.
