Port Otago Limited has ordered ten hybrid Konecranes Noell straddle carriers equipped with twin-lift spreaders and the full Konecranes Noell Fleet Management System, booked in June 2026 for delivery by the end of August 2027. Serving as a key gateway for international trade in New Zealand’s South Island, the port will use the equipment to handle import and export ISO containers, supporting efficient terminal operations and future developments.
The fully assembled straddle carriers feature a 60-tonne lifting capacity, four-high container stacking, and four driven wheels, while the twin-lift spreaders handle either two 20-foot containers or one 40-foot container. The included Fleet Management System provides comprehensive telemetry and operational data across the fleet, allowing hybrid technology to improve operational performance and reduce fuel consumption compared to the existing diesel fleet.
Local support will be provided by Konecranes’ regional service organization in Australia and New Zealand, ensuring access to trained technicians to maximize equipment availability and lifecycle performance. This initiative aligns with Konecranes’ Ecolifting approach, offering a practical path toward lower emissions and more sustainable terminal operations.
