Port of Tyne Clean Energy Park Development

Share:

The UK government has appointed the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) as the lead environmental regulator for the Port of Tyne’s proposed £175m Clean Energy Park. This initiative establishes a single point of contact to coordinate planning and regulatory approvals, aiming to streamline development and minimize potential project delays.

The project involves the redevelopment of a 230-acre industrial site on the River Tyne, featuring 400m of new deep-water quayside. This infrastructure is designed to facilitate offshore wind manufacturing, assembly, storage, and logistics, strengthening the UK’s capacity within the North Sea offshore wind sector.

Forecasts suggest the development could support up to 12,000 jobs and contribute over £5.6bn to the economy. The MMO will coordinate with partners, including the Environment Agency and Natural England, to ensure rigorous environmental standards are maintained throughout the construction and operation of the park.
