Port of Tauranga Receives Draft Approval for Stella Passage

Share:

Port of Tauranga Limited has received conditional approval from the fast-track expert panel for the Stella Passage development. The proposed decision, released today, grants the approvals sought by the port, subject to specified conditions.

The development project includes extending the Sulphur Point container berth by 385 m and the Mount Maunganui wharves by 315 m. These expansions will be achieved by converting existing cargo storage land within the current port footprint, alongside associated land reclamation and dredging of the passage.

The port has two days to provide feedback on the draft conditions before a final decision is expected in early September. The port chief executive noted the project is essential to address current capacity limits and support regional and national economic growth.
