Total throughput at the Port of Rotterdam reached 212.0m tonnes in the first half of 2026, marking a 0.4% increase compared to H1 2025. Despite market uncertainty and geopolitical disruptions, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the port maintained operational resilience and stable financial performance. Revenues grew by 3.2% to €477.0m, while net income rose to €144.8m.
Performance across cargo segments remained mixed during the six-month period. Liquid bulk rose 2.4%, supported by an 11.5% increase in oil products to 25m tonnes and a 1.6% rise in crude oil. Dry bulk grew 1.7%, driven by a 17.8% recovery in coal and an 18.5% increase in raw construction materials, offsetting a 14.2% decline in agribulk. Container volume dipped 0.1% in TEU and 2.6% in tonnage to 98.5m tonnes, while overall breakbulk fell 1.1%.
The port invested €126.0m in key sustainability and security projects during H1 2026. Highlights included activating the first 32km section of the national hydrogen network between Maasvlakte and Pernis, completing its first ethanol fuel bunkering, and expanding shore power installations. To enhance operational safety and digital defense, the authority requested Pre-U-space air designation for drone management and launched a cybersecurity shield monitoring over 15 critical organizations across thousands of connected systems.
