PD Ports Adds Third Electric Liebherr LPS 550 Portal Crane

Share:

PD Ports has announced the acquisition of a third Liebherr LPS 550 portal crane for its Teesport facility, following the successful performance of two previous units commissioned in 2020. This investment is aimed at enhancing bulk handling capabilities and supporting the port’s growing operations. The new crane, featuring a four-rope configuration and a maximum lifting capacity of up to 124 tonnes, is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2024.

The decision to expand the fleet is driven by the high reliability and 99% uptime recorded by the existing electric cranes, which have already handled over 2 million tonnes of material. The LPS 550 is specifically designed for high-turnover bulk operations, offering a turnover of up to 1,200 tonnes per hour. By utilizing an electric drive concept, the equipment supports the port’s productivity goals while maintaining efficient energy consumption during intensive loading and unloading cycles. The crane will be used to manage diverse bulk commodities at the UK-based port, ensuring continued operational continuity.
