The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has finalised the installation of a solar energy system at Marina South Pier (MSP). This initiative marks a significant milestone in the authority’s sustainability efforts and aligns with the GreenGov.SG movement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shore-based operations. The project commemorates the 20th anniversary of the pier, which has served as Singapore’s primary passenger ferry terminal since 2006.
The installation features 1,092 solar photovoltaic panels covering approximately 3,200 sq m of rooftop and canopy space. The system is capable of generating 780,000 kwh of electricity annually, meeting a substantial portion of the terminal’s energy needs. In addition to powering existing facilities, the system will support the charging requirements for electric harbour craft. MPA is currently expanding renewable energy use at other sites, including a project on Pulau Satumu expected to reach full renewable power by the end of 2027.
