A.P. Moller – Maersk has commenced the roll-out of next-generation IoT connectivity devices across its entire fleet of refrigerated containers (reefers). This upgrade aims to standardize hardware and deliver a more consistent, reliable data flow for cold chain customers throughout the container journey. To date, approximately 30% of the reefer fleet has already been equipped with the new technology.
The upgraded devices feature increased processing power, 4G/5G connectivity with 2G/3G backwards compatibility, and integrated solar panels for continuous energy harvesting. Beyond enhancing real-time cargo visibility through the Captain Peter platform, the technology is designed to evolve into an intelligent tool that interprets data to provide actionable recommendations. The installation process is scheduled to continue over the coming years.
