A.P. Moller – Maersk has officially launched World Gateway II, a 1.1 million square foot, fully automated distribution centre in Singapore. The facility is designed to strengthen the company’s regional leadership in contract logistics and meet the rising demand for e-commerce fulfillment across Asia Pacific. Located near Tuas Port and Changi Airport, the centre serves as a global hub for various sectors, including lifestyle, retail, technology, and FMCG.
The project represents an investment of over S$200 million and features advanced technologies such as an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) and autonomous case-handling robots. These innovations are intended to reduce manual handling, shorten lead times, and enhance order accuracy. The facility has already reached approximately 70% occupancy and is expected to create around 500 jobs focused on digital and automated operations once fully operational.
Sustainability and security are central to the new site, which has earned LEED Platinum and Green Mark Platinum certifications for its energy and water efficiency. The warehouse includes solar panels and smart LED lighting while maintaining high security as a TAPA Class A certified facility. World Gateway II also functions as a customs-bonded warehouse, allowing for deferred GST on non-dutiable goods to optimize supply chain costs for international businesses.
