Liebherr to Supply Six Offshore Cranes for North Sea Wind Projects

Share:

Liebherr is supplying six RL 2600 offshore cranes for TenneT’s 2-gigawatt (GW) wind transmission system projects in the North Sea. The company secured the contract with Seatrium, a shipyard group based in Singapore. The cranes will be deployed in pairs on three distinct platforms: IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma, and Nederwiek Beta, with staged deliveries ensuring placement ahead of the planned operational start in 2029.

The RL 2600 cranes feature a weight-optimised, space-saving design with a small tail radius and low overall height, allowing them to operate effectively in confined offshore environments. Built to handle maintenance and supply operations across the wind energy sector, each crane has an outreach of up to 45 metres and a lifting capacity of up to 25 tonnes. These technical capabilities are designed to support regular logistics and lifting tasks required to maintain the 2-GW converter platforms.

To support operations on the unmanned platforms, the cranes will integrate the digital LiMain system for remote maintenance. This marks the first time an Asian-based engineering, procurement, and construction provider has selected the LiMain system, which enables key service tasks to be managed from shore to reduce site visits and environmental impact. Once operational, maintenance and support will be coordinated directly by Liebherr Netherlands.
