Strong import volume propelled overall container activity across Valenciaport’s facilities in the first half of 2026. The Valencia Port Authority (APV) handled 2.82m TEUs between January and June across the ports of Valencia, Sagunto, and Gandia, a 0.20% increase compared to the same period last year. Full import containers drove this expansion, climbing 11.14% to 559,825 TEUs, while full export containers dipped 0.84% to 451,669 TEUs. Total goods handled reached 39.92m tonnes (-3.12%), with unloaded cargo increasing 6.43% to 12.76m tonnes and loaded cargo falling 2.94% to 12.23m tonnes.
Rail freight and automotive sectors maintained strong upward momentum. Goods moved by rail expanded 19.51% to 1.96m tonnes, corresponding to 144,803 TEUs (+16.78%). Automobile shipments rose 9.33% to 276,930 units, led by the Port of Sagunto, which handled 110,001 vehicles (+24.26%). Overall passenger traffic dropped 9.63% to 612,305 travelers, largely driven by a 23.88% decline in cruise passengers (237,547), despite a 2.53% rise in regular ferry passengers (374,758).
China solidified its position as Valenciaport’s top foreign trading partner, generating 469,504 TEUs (+25.14%) and over 5.1m tonnes (+26.33%). The United States followed with 167,540 TEUs (-14.01%) and nearly 3m tonnes (-6.09%), while trade with Algeria reached 156,822 TEUs (-3.78%). Container traffic with Türkiye stood at 97,833 TEUs (-24.95%), and trade with Italy totaled 53,083 TEUs (-19.96%) and over 3.1m tonnes (-12.58%).
