Hyster Deploys UK’s First Hydrogen ReachStacker

Share:

Hyster and authorized dealer Briggs Equipment UK have delivered the United Kingdom’s first hydrogen fuel cell-powered Hyster ReachStacker to the Port of Tilbury in Essex. This pre-production container handler introduces 100% green hydrogen-powered heavy lifting capability to busy container terminals to support real-world port operations.

The machine utilizes a Nuvera 60kw fuel cell engine converting hydrogen into electricity alongside a 130kwh lithium-ion battery. High-pressure onboard tanks store 32kg of hydrogen, enabling the equipment to run a full 12-hour shift while refueling in under 30 minutes via on-site infrastructure provided by GeoPura.

This deployment aims to reduce the port’s CO2 footprint by over 107,000kg annually compared to equivalent diesel machinery. The initiative supports the Port of Tilbury and Forth Ports Group goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2042.
