Huisman Strengthens European Logistics Hub with Twelve New Automated Stacking Cranes for ECT

Share:

Huisman has secured a significant contract to deliver twelve additional Automated Stacking Cranes (ASCs) to the ECT Delta terminal in Rotterdam. This order follows a previous agreement, bringing the total number of new-generation Huisman ASCs for the terminal to 22. This expansion is a critical component of Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam’s ongoing modernization program, aimed at reinforcing its position as one of the most technologically advanced and efficient container gateways in Europe.

The new cranes are designed to maximize terminal capacity and operational efficiency through high-level automation and a lightweight structural design. By utilizing advanced automated systems, these cranes can operate continuously with high precision, significantly improving container throughput and stacking density. The integration of these units into the existing terminal infrastructure demonstrates Huisman’s ability to provide scalable, high-performance solutions for complex brownfield redevelopment projects in busy port environments.

Sustainability is a key driver behind this equipment upgrade, as the ASCs feature fully electric drive systems that contribute to the terminal’s carbon reduction goals. The lightweight design not only reduces energy consumption during operation but also minimizes wear and tear on the terminal’s civil infrastructure. These technical advancements allow ECT to scale up its operations while simultaneously lowering its environmental footprint, meeting the growing demand for “greener” logistics chains in the maritime industry.
