HD Hyundai Samho has signed a contract with Washington United Terminals Inc. (WUT), a U.S. subsidiary of HMM, to supply four port cranes for the Port of Tacoma in Washington State. This agreement marks the company’s entry into the U.S. port crane market and serves as the launch of the Korea-U.S. shipbuilding cooperation initiative known as the MASGA project.
The project involves a terminal modernization initiative to replace two aging quay cranes and add two new yard cranes, utilizing high-quality steel produced by POSCO. These additions will enable WUT to expand its annual cargo-handling capacity and better accommodate larger container vessels.
HD Hyundai Samho will execute the entire project on a turnkey basis, encompassing design, manufacturing, transportation, installation, and commissioning, with delivery scheduled for completion in 2028. Since 1985, the company has supplied a total of 20 port cranes to major ports across the United States.
