Hapag-Lloyd Acquires Stake in Maasvlakte II Terminal

Share:

Hapag-Lloyd has signed an agreement to acquire a 25% stake in APM Terminals Maasvlakte II B.V. as part of a strategic partnership to support future development, capacity expansion, and operational performance. While APM Terminals will retain operational control of the facility, the investment strengthens Hapag-Lloyd’s long-term position in Rotterdam and serves as a key hub for the Gemini Cooperation.

The terminal, operational since 2015, is currently undergoing an expansion that includes adding 1,000 m of deep-sea berth for a total of 2,000 m. The project also features increased yard capacity, additional rail tracks, and the integration of automated terminal tractors. Once completed, the terminal is expected to reach an annual handling capacity of 5.4m TEU. Completion of the transaction remains subject to regulatory approval.
