Georgia Ports Authority Trucker App Adoption Grows Past 4,000 Drivers

Share:

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has reported a significant surge in the adoption of its GPA Trucker mobile app, with user enrollment growing from fewer than 900 to more than 4,000 drivers since its launch in October 2025. Designed to expedite truck moves at one of the nation’s busiest container ports, the application enhances overall productivity by streamlining terminal processes. The tool aims to reduce turn times for front-line drivers, which directly translates into a more efficient supply chain operation.

From a functional standpoint, the app delivers real-time, on-terminal container locations and automatically sends digital gate transaction tickets via push notifications, completely eliminating the need for physical paperwork at the gates. It allows drivers to view their precise location relative to pinned containers and identifies the closest terminal gates to minimize driving distances. The system features biometric authentication, provides automated alerts for weather or schedule updates, and has become the exclusive method for ticketing at Ocean Terminal, while remaining optional at the larger Garden City Terminal.

The digital transition comes as the Port of Savannah manages an average of 14,000 weekday truck gate moves, maintaining single transaction turn times at 32 minutes and dual moves at 50 minutes. In tandem with the app’s expansion, GPA is executing a phased rollout of facial recognition technology across inbound lanes at Garden City Terminal’s Gate 3 to further accelerate access. While enrolled drivers are spared from physically presenting their Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC), they must continue to maintain possession of the cards while on-site.
