Echandia to Power Singapore’s Maritime Green Transition with Advanced Battery Systems

Share:

Echandia, a leading provider of maritime energy solutions, has secured a contract to supply a 3 MWh battery system for a tugboat operating in Singapore’s harbor. This project aligns with Singapore’s strategic initiative to electrify its harbor craft fleet by 2030, marking a significant step in the region’s transition toward zero-emission maritime transport. The agreement, signed with a major Singapore-based shipyard and shipowner, also includes an option for a second battery system.

The selected technology is based on Echandia’s LTO (Lithium Titanium Oxide) battery system, specifically chosen for its exceptional 25-year lifespan and proven reliability in harsh marine environments. Engineered to last the entire operational life of the vessel, the system eliminates the need for battery replacements. This durability ensures a low total cost of ownership and provides predictable performance due to minimal degradation, which simplifies the long-term planning and management of daily tugboat operations.

By securing this contract, Echandia strengthens its presence in the Asian market and reinforces its position as a global leader in sustainable shipping. The company’s focus on durability and operational efficiency addresses the rigorous requirements of modern shipping while supporting long-term economic goals. To date, Echandia has sold over 115 systems globally, helping shipbuilders and operators reduce fuel consumption and accelerate the maritime industry’s shift to zero-emission operations.
