Canada Joins 212CD Submarine Programme

Share:

Canada has officially moved to acquire 212CD submarines, joining an established partnership with Norway and Germany to bolster allied underwater capabilities. This collaboration facilitates joint development and standardization among the participating nations, with Canada now entering formal contract negotiations to define its role in the program.

The Canadian programme intends to procure up to 12 modern submarines, with contracting expected to conclude by the end of 2027. Under the current schedule, the first four vessels are slated for delivery in 2034.

Kongsberg, a key industrial partner, will continue supplying combat system elements for the 212CD fleet through its joint venture, kta naval systems. The company, which already maintains operations in Canada, plans to further invest in industrial cooperation with local partners to support the production and maintenance of the ORCCA combat system.
