APM Terminals Elizabeth has announced a major modernization milestone, securing agreements for 96 electric terminal tractors from Orange EV and 34 electric rubber-tired gantry cranes from Konecranes. This investment aims to enhance terminal capacity, strengthen operational reliability, and prepare the facility for future cargo growth at the Port of New York and New Jersey.
As a primary gateway handling approximately 28% of the port’s container throughput, the terminal supports more than 600 vessel calls and 800,000 truck visits annually. These new, advanced assets are part of a long-term strategy to improve efficiency and support regional commerce while aligning with the Port Authority’s net-zero sustainability goals.
Beyond new equipment, the terminal is collaborating with labor partners to prioritize workforce training. By integrating these electric technologies, APM Terminals Elizabeth seeks to maintain its competitive edge and ensure a resilient, future-ready operation capable of managing increasingly complex supply chains.
