The Alabama Port Authority Board of Directors and leadership team met with Alabama’s congressional delegation in Washington, D.C., to express appreciation for securing over $49m in federal funding and appropriations. The newly acquired funds will support strategic infrastructure projects, modernize facilities, and improve operational efficiency at the Port of Mobile. Port leaders emphasized the seaport’s position as a vital economic engine, noting that it supports more than one in seven jobs in Alabama and has generated $415b in economic impact statewide.
The federal investments include approximately $38m from the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund Donor and Energy Transfer programs for dredging and beneficial use projects. An additional $3.2m is directed toward developing a beneficial use site in Upper Mobile Bay for long-term dredging and wetland creation. The funding also allocates $2m for improvements at the TASD Interchange Yard to enhance rail efficiency, $2m for modernization at the McDuffie Coal Terminal, $850k for design work for a future cargo facility on the main docks, and $500k to study increased sedimentation.
