Port of Long Beach Opens Cyber Defense Operations Center

Share:

The Port of Long Beach has commissioned a new Cyber Defense Operations Center to protect its digital network infrastructure from cyberattacks. Developed in coordination with federal, state, and local agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, the facility is designed to monitor and secure data networks critical to the movement of cargo through the maritime supply chain.

The center operates on a 24/7 schedule to counter security threats, with current data indicating the Port mitigates an attempted cyberattack every three seconds on average. The facility allows the Port to double its on-site cybersecurity personnel to monitor the digital systems associated with its $300b in annual trade. Additionally, the infrastructure provides oversight to detect digital threats connected to cross-border illicit activity and financial networks tied to organized retail crime.

Separately, the Port released its cargo data for the previous month, showing a total volume of nearly 818,000 TEUs, which represents its third-highest April volume on record. Total volume decreased by 5.7% compared to April 2025, with imports falling 7.1% to nearly 390,000 TEUs, exports increasing 26.7% to nearly 119,000 TEUs, and empty containers declining 12.6% to 309,000 TEUs.
