Damen Shipyards Group and the Senegalese Government, represented by the Société des Infrastructures de Réparation Navale (SIRN), have launched a joint venture to operate Damen Shiprepair Dakar. This partnership aims to provide a comprehensive suite of maintenance and ship repair services on the West African coast. The facility is strategically positioned to support the regional offshore energy industry and existing maritime clients.
The shipyard features extensive infrastructure, including a 191-meter drydock, a 235-meter floating dock, and a synchrolift with a 1,200-tonne lifting capacity. Current operations employ over 300 personnel and numerous subcontractors. Damen plans to implement a capital expenditure investment program to modernize the facility, aligning its health, safety, and environmental standards with the group’s global network of shipyards.
Long-term goals for the venture include the restoration of newbuilding activities and the establishment of a local training center to enhance technical skills in the region. The modernization efforts focus on integrating IT landscapes and HR management systems while maintaining the high safety levels required by the offshore energy sector.
