Van Oord Completes Foundation Work for Baltic Power Wind Farm

Share:

Van Oord has reached a significant milestone in the development of Poland’s offshore wind sector by successfully transporting and installing all monopile foundations and transition pieces for the Baltic Power project. As the country’s first-ever offshore wind farm, Baltic Power represents a critical step in strengthening Poland’s energy security and transitioning toward renewable energy sources. Developed by a joint venture between ORLEN and Northland Power, the facility is designed with a total capacity of up to 1.2 GW, which will provide clean energy to more than 1.5m Polish households.

The installation process utilized advanced maritime technology and strategic partnerships to handle next-generation 15 MW wind turbines. The majority of the 78 monopile foundations were installed by Van Oord’s heavy-lift vessel Svanen, which recently underwent a major upgrade to increase its lifting height and capacity for larger components. This project marked the first operational deployment of the upgraded vessel.

Van Oord partnered with Mammoet, utilizing an XXL monopile transport system and the new MTC1600 crane to manage the marshalling and transfer of foundations at the port. Additionally, the installation of the 76 transition pieces was executed by the heavy lift vessel MV Lone.
