MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has confirmed that a transfer of ownership occurred during the final quarter of 2025, shifting control from founder Captain Gianluigi Aponte to his children, Diego Aponte and Alexa Aponte Vago. This transition marks a significant milestone for the Geneva-based global transport and logistics leader. Diego Aponte, serving as Group President, and Alexa Aponte Vago, Group Chief Financial Officer, will now steward the company’s continued stability and growth.
The move is designed to ensure the long-term continuity of the family’s centuries-long maritime heritage while maintaining the Group’s focus on its core ocean freight business. Captain Gianluigi Aponte, who remains as Executive Chairman, expressed confidence in the new leadership, citing their demonstrated vision and successes within their respective roles. The transition reflects the dedication of the next generation to the company’s legacy of innovation and resilience.
Headquartered in Switzerland, the MSC Group remains a privately owned entity with a vast global reach, operating across 300 trade routes and calling at 520 ports worldwide. Under the new ownership structure, the company continues to manage its extensive portfolio, which includes overland transportation, logistics, and port terminal operations.
