Kalmar has signed an agreement to supply 14 hybrid straddle carriers to PSA Antwerp in Belgium. The order, which was recorded in Kalmar’s Q1 2026 intake, is part of PSA Antwerp’s broader strategy to modernize its terminal equipment and enhance the eco-efficiency of its cargo-handling operations at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges.
The hybrid straddle carriers utilize a battery system combined with a diesel engine to recover and reuse energy. This technology significantly reduces fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to traditional diesel-powered machines. The units are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2026.
By integrating these hybrid units, PSA Antwerp aims to lower emissions in its daily operations while maintaining high performance standards.
