Kongsberg Maritime to Equip Scenic Ikon with Hybrid Propulsion Package

Share:

Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract from MKM Yachts to supply a comprehensive technology and equipment suite for the Scenic Ikon, a new luxury polar expedition vessel being built for Scenic Cruise. The 203-metre ship, currently under construction at the 3 Maj Shipyard in Croatia, is scheduled for delivery in 2027. This latest addition to the Scenic fleet will focus on clean and efficient operations through an integrated hybrid-electric system.

The vessel will be the first in its series to utilize Kongsberg Maritime Elegance Pods for main propulsion, featuring two 3340KW units with Permanent Magnet motors designed for high efficiency and low noise. The propulsion package is supported by an Energy Storage System (ESS) that enables emission-free power for both sailing and hotel consumption. The integration allows the ship to operate effectively in environmentally sensitive polar regions.

In addition to the pods and batteries, the contract includes a full array of technical systems such as bow thrusters, retractable stabilizing fins, and deck machinery. Kongsberg Maritime will also provide a fully integrated navigation system with dynamic positioning, forward-looking sonar, and an automation suite covering energy and safety management. These components are designed to ensure optimal hydrodynamic performance and maneuverability for the luxury expedition vessel.
