Essar Ports Wins Tuna Tekra Cargo Terminal Concession

Share:

Essar Ports Limited has received the Letter of Award from the Deendayal Port Authority to develop a multipurpose cargo terminal at Tuna Tekra, Kandla, Gujarat. Awarded through a global competitive bidding process, the project will be executed on a 30-year Build, Operate and Transfer basis under a Public-Private Partnership model. The total estimated investment stands at ₹2,276.06 crore, comprising over ₹1,552.57 crore from Essar Ports and ₹723.49 crore from the port authority.

The planned facility will deliver an annual handling capacity of 18.33m tonnes and feature four berths totaling 1,200 m in length (300 m each). Engineered with a draft capability of up to 18 m, the terminal will accommodate Cape-size vessels up to 170,000 deadweight tonnes. As part of the public-private framework, the port authority will provide common-user infrastructure, including channel dredging, berth pockets, turning circles, and an access road.

Developed under environmental guidelines and the Green Port Policy, the new infrastructure will relieve congestion on existing dry-cargo berths and improve multimodal logistics. The terminal expands Essar Ports’ footprint, which currently includes approximately 60m tonnes per annum of operational capacity across India, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom.
