NWSA has added a second battery-electric forklift to its operations at the East Blair One Terminal in Tacoma. This deployment marks another step in the organization’s transition to zero-emission cargo handling, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and diesel pollution at the breakbulk facility.
The equipment acquisition is supported by a $2.6m grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation’s 2023-2025 Port Electrification Grant Program. The funding covers one 36,000lb heavy-duty forklift, two 8,000lb forklifts, and necessary charging infrastructure. These electric units are replacing high-utilization diesel equipment, aligning with the Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy goal to reach zero emissions by 2050.
